Documentation - New in Rhino 6

Overview

Modeling is just one part of the design process. You also need to show how to build your design. We refined many parts of the documentation workflow, completely reworking the annotation-style interface, and improving DWG support and RichText throughout. It's now easier to accurately and clearly convey the what and the how of your designs.

Dimensions & Annotations

Faster, crisper on-screen display in model views and layouts:

Annotation Styles

Control the look of dimensions, leaders, and text with annotation styles. Update your drawing look by changing the properties of the dimension styles assigned to each annotation object.

Rich Text

Rich Text lets you set multiple fonts, bold, italic, and underline in a single block of text.

Fields

<field> support to display data from the document or objects in text and annotations.

Tolerance

Tolerance options: plus/plus, symmetrical, and deviation:

Fine-grained Control

You can now override annotation styles per object.

There are now Zero suppression settings for annotation items.

Well Oriented

Orient text toward reader when viewed from behind:

Stacked Fractions

Stacked fractions are now supported in all annotations:

Editing

Now you can double-click text and annotations to edit them.

Text

  • Line wrapping controls in the editor.
  • Set the rotation angle during creation.
  • Separate scaling for model space and layout space text.
  • Workflow for Text and TextObject commands are the same.
  • Symbols (degree, radius, diameter, ±), stacked fractions, and text fields in all text edit boxes.
  • Case editing: Uppercase, lowercase, word capitalization, and invert case options.

Dimensions

  • History is on by default for dimensions. When you modify dimensioned objects, the dimensions update.
  • Continue (Chain) dimensions.
  • Baseline dimensions.
  • Angular dimension arrow placement: arrows can be forced to have arrows inside, outside, or automatically placed.
  • Angular dimension text placement: text can be forced inside, right, left, or automatically placed.

Dot

  • Font and height settings.
  • Secondary text: info that does not display inside the dot but may be of interest.

Leaders

We've added more control over leader structure: straight, curved, attachment point to text.

Hatch

Hatch boundary can be selected from inside a block.

Centermark

Centermarks can be placed to mark centers of circles and arcs:

Picture

Picture command makes using bitmaps easy.

Layer

  • New Layer On only in current detail setting.
  • Detail visibility now remembered for linked blocks.
  • Per-viewport layer visibility affected by general layer visibility setting.

File I/O

  • DWG: New annotation style settings make it possible to round-trip more DWG files through Rhino without losing formatting.
  • DWG: Export straight curves simplified with Simplify unchecked.
  • DWG: Added ability to open AutoCAD 2015 files.
  • Multiple page PDF printing.
  • API for saving to PDF.
  • SVG exporter allows you to save Scalable Vector Graphics files. This image is an SVG exported from Rhino:

Make2D

Make2D has been completely rewritten to provide faster, better, cleaner, more customizable results.

ViewCaptureToClipboard/File

ViewCaptureToFile and ViewCaptureToClipboard now have a handy dialog.

Blocks

Block replacement logic has been redesigned to make results more predictable and help avoid naming collisions.

And More

.  And, of course, numerous bug fixes.
